The presentation of Literary Searches by Jirair Tanielian, the well-known intellectual and principal of AGBU Tarouhy-Hovagimian School, took place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2008 in the Asbeds Hall of the AGBU Demirdjian Center (Lebanon) under the sponsorship of the editorial committee of the AGBU publication Khosnag.
Present at the program were Dr. Vahan Ter Ghevondian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Lebanon, various clergymen, Lebanese-Armenian intellectuals, local artists and members of the general public.
Opening remarks were delivered by Khosnag editor Hampig Mardirosian, who highlighted Jirair Tanielian’s role in the realm of Armenian culture. Also participating in the program were Talar Der Vartanian, who read some of Tanielian’s writings, and Angele Mississian, who delivered a heartfelt message. Fr. Antranig Granian addressed the audience on the topic of “Jirair Tanielian the Man,” while a fellow editor, Bariur Aghbashian, spoke about the newly released book and its merits. At the conclusion of the program, the author Jirair Tanielian expressed words of thanks to those at the well-attended event.
Also included in the tribute program was a performance Anna Batouzian (singer), Raffi Der Arakelian (organist) and Shahe Babahekian (accordion), members of the AGBU Spidag ensemble.

Today, through the global allocation of over $1 million annually, the AGBU Scholarship Program proudly supports over 450 full-time students of Armenian descent from 25 countries to realize their potential. I was both surprised and honored to receive the scholarship from your organization. I am aware of some of the things you do for our community, particularly in support of education. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of the ”Education – Scholarship program-AGBU”. As one of this year’s recipients, I am grateful for the opportunities this award will provide me. I rely on financial aid, grants and student loans to help finance my education. Receiving this scholarship will help reduce my financial burdens and provide assistance for me as I continue pursuing my education.
I appreciate your confidence in me and willingness to contribute to my future education. I look forward to completing my Bachelor’s Degree…I plan on majoring in Trading and Book-Keeping in hopes of one day opening my own business.

AGBU Plovdiv and its weekly publication, AGBU Voice, have been actively supporting Armenian literature and its appreciation in Bulgaria.
(Top Left) In November of last year, the AGBU Voice newspaper released a new book by author Edoard Sarkissian, entitled The Call of the Abysses. The booksigning event took place at the Chinese Hall of Sofia University and attracted a diverse cross section of the local Bulgarian-Armenian community. The book, Sarkissian’s latest, documents the stories of mountain climbers who have been on expedition in Armenia and other countries.
(Top Right) On December 13, the editorial staff of AGBU Voice was invited by the local Alliance Française to join them for a “Soiree Cabaret” meeting. The event was arranged to celebrate Alliance Française’s success of the past year and, on the occasion, AGBU Plovdiv presented 20 books published by the chapter to the French organization’s cultural club.
In addition to its donation to the Alliance Française, AGBU Plovdiv donated 20 books each to some of the city’s most renowned libraries, including the Ivan Vazov National Library, the Aleko Konstantinov Library, the Vazrajdane Library and the Nazim Hikmet Library. Among the books published by the AGBU chapter and presented to the institutions were And Noah Came from Ararat, The Call of the Ploughman, the epic poem David of Sassoun and their newly released publication, The Call of the Abysses.
Yerevan Fine Arts Academy’s Gyumri branch celebrated its 10th anniversary on December 21, 2007 at the Hoktember movie theater in Gyumri, Armenia.
Republic of Armenia Education and Science Minister Levon Mkrtchian, Rector of Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts Aram Isabekian, AGBU Armenian Representation Director Ashot Ghazarian, other officials, local authorities, and representatives of higher educational institutions were present at the celebration.
Today, the educational institute, which started with less than 10 students a decade ago, has 192 aspiring artists in six departments. AGBU was an early sponsor of the academy and a key supporter during the early years.
