On Wednesday, May 14, members of New York’s Armenian American community attended a book reading by influential columnist Nubar Dorian to celebrate the launch of his new book of essays, Harvests of the Heart. The event, cosponsored by the Diocese and AGBU, took place at the Diocese Center in Manhattan’s Murray Hill neighborhood.
After being introduced by Master of Ceremonies Chris Zakian, managing editor of the Armenian Reporter newspaper, Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern), and Berge Setrakian, president of AGBU, both spoke about Dorian continuing devotion to Armenian American affairs.
On behalf of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, Archbishop Barsamian bestowed the Sts. Sahag and Mesrob medal upon Dorian. Very Rev. Fr. Vazken Karayan read the Pontifical Encyclical, recognizing Dorian’s contributions to the Armenian Church.
Setrakian presented Dorian with an AGBU Honor Membership to mark the author’s continuing dedication to all things Armenians.
Dorian was deeply touched by the honors and spoke about his life advocating for a new perspective on Armenian American issues.
Among those who spoke that evening after the author, was Artemis Nazarian (below), who along with her husband AGBU Trustee Nazar Nazarian, sponsored the book’s publication.
