AGBU-UN SIG Hosts Manhattan Benefit for UNDP’s “Youth Career Trail Program”

On July 24, 2008 at the UN New York Headquarters, the AGBU-UN SIG in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) hosted a benefit reception in support of the Youth Career Trail project in Armenia.

The benefit raised $6,000 for the program, which will ensure that 10 recent college graduates will benefit from hands-on work experience that will lead to future employment.

Antranig Dance Ensemble to Perform in NY Oct. 4

The AGBU Antranig Dance Ensemble has announced a performance on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Columbia University in Manhattan.

According to their press release:

That full two-hour show will be held at Columbia University’s Roone Arledge Auditorium, and will be hosted by the University’s Armenian students club. It will mark the group’s first full stage presentation for its hometown New York audience in two years and promises to be everything an Antranig performance has been known for.

From hand-made dazzling costumes created by Armenian artisans to music prepared by some of Armenia’s highest regarded writers and directors, the show is eye and ear candy from beginning to end.

Currently comprised of over 30 young men and women, Antranig performs full-length dance productions throughout the United States and Canada, and has played on some of the premier stages of the world, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York, Claude Champagne Hall in Montreal and the State Opera Theater in Armenia.

Nazarian Pre-school Goes Up at MDS

The Nazarian Pres-School at the AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School (MDS) in Canoga Park, CA is quickly being built–as you can see below.

There are plans to post photos on the school website so that the world can see the progress of the newest edition to the MDS campus.

HMEM Nubar Cairo Wins HMEM Nubar Alex Basketball Tournament

HMEM Nubar Cairo men’s and ladies’…won the trophies of the basketball tournament of HMEM Nubar Alex…

A buffet dinner was organized on Saturday evening after the matches of the second day, gathering fans & players of HMEM Nubar Alex & Cairo, St. Therese as well as those of HMEM Gamk who have also attended all the matches of the tournament in support of HMEM Nubar Alex.

Toronto Campers Return from Camp Nubar Eager For More

Last month AGBU Young Professionals from across the East Coast of the United States traveled to Camp Nubar and raved about their time there and then today we received this note from AGBU Toronto:

Twenty-three enthusiastic kids from Toronto joined the first session of AGBU Camp Nubar. They all had a wonderful time and can’t wait to join the camp again next summer. In the picture [below] are our kids on the last day of camp.

Sounds like those who are attending Camp Nubar are truly happy campers!

AGBU Prepares for Sold-out Fundraiser at United Nations

The AGBU UN group is busy preparing for their big fundraiser this Thursday at the United Nations building in Manhattan. They posted this on their blog today:
