Pasadena Star News Profiles High School Pasadena’s Sports Teams

The Pasadena Star News has published a story, “AGBU in first year of CIF competition,” that profiles AGBU’s newest Californian high school and their various sports teams:
The four-year high school, located just east of Victory Park, is in its third year. It has 104 students and is affiliated with the Canoga Park AGBU, which has more than 1,000 students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12th grade and also participates in varsity sports at the CIF-SS level.
In addition to the boys and girls basketball teams:
The school also is fielding teams in boys and girls volleyball (which went 6-4), and boys soccer. There also is a boys JV basketball team.
The newspaper also mentions that, “roughly 40 percent of the student body is taking part in athletics.”

2009 Philadelphia Cotillion Set for June 20

The Philadelphia community is abuzz with talk of the 2009 AGBU Cotillion, set to take place on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Sheraton-University City.
Dozens of Armenian men and women, ages 18 to 27, have been meeting and planning receptions, parties and a coffeehouse mixer, as a string of events leading to the June formal. The next party is an Armenian-style dinner at a local Armenian American home (Sunday, Feb. 15, 4-8 p.m). Guests are asked to RSVP to ftorcomian [at] aol [dot] com by Feb. 10.
The Cotillion is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet people from throughout Philadelphia’s Armenian American community while forming social and even professional relationships that you’ll value for years to come. Don’t miss out! Registration extends through January!

Scholarship Event Takes Place in Sofia, Bulgaria

On January 11, 2009, AGBU Sofia organized a small event for 2008/2009 AGBU scholarship recepients. The gathering took place at the renowned Tea House in downtown Sofia, Bulgaria.
Sonia Bedrosian, Chairwoman of AGBU Sofia, introduced special guest, Violina Marinova, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Director of DSK Bank, who was invited to hand out the scholarships to the eight young Bulgarian Armenian recipients. Marinova thanked the organizers for the opportunity to be part of the ceremony and she spoke about hard work and consistency as the keys to success not only in the banking industry but in every field.
Each of the recipients made a brief statement about their motivation to take part in the benevolent activities of AGBU and career aspirations. The event was attend by many prominent members of the city’s Armenian community, all of whom had the opportunity to meet and chat with scholarship recipients and AGBU members.
