AGBU Cotillionaires to Debut in Philadelphia, June 20

May 17, 2009 · 1 Comment

Phillycotillion01

Some of the many 2009 Philadelphia AGBU Cotillionaires enjoy the most recent of several wonderful parties hosted by the participants’ families since the fall – a sports outing called “Have a Ball.” Gearing up for a competitive game are Avi Keshgegian (back row, from left), Niki Arakelian, Paul Sookiasian, Gabrielle Pakhtigian, Jasmine Fereshetian, Katrina Selverian, Sara Selverian, Damon Fereshetian (middle row), Alyssa Sookiasian (front, from left) and Cerise Fereshetian.

Philadelphia – On Saturday, June 20, at the Sheraton-University City, the Philadelphia AGBU will proudly present the 2009 Cotillionaires: Michael Alexanian, Stephanie Alexanian, Niki Arakelian, Serop Buldukyan, Cerise Fereshetian, Damon Fereshetian, Jasmine Fereshetian, Allison Injaian, Karine Keshgegian, Richard Avedis Keshgegian, Mardik Khatchadrian, Gabrielle Pakhtigian, Garineh Panosian, Katrina Selverian, Sara Selverian, Maritsa Sherenian, Michael Sherenian, Talene Soghomonian, Alyssa Sookiasian, Paul Sookiasian, Mark Tekirian, Ana Torcomian, Chris Torcomian, and Matt Zakian.

“The Cotillion enables young Armenians to form rewarding and long-lasting relationships,” said Cotillion co-chair Melissa Selverian, “and encourages them to perpetuate the Armenian heritage.”

Organizing a cotillion in the current economic climate is anything but business as usual. A concerted effort is underway to solicit sponsors for the keepsake program booklet, which will be distributed to guests at the event. Advance tickets are also on sale.

“The kids are in so many different directions now, and the economy is tight,” explained Ms. Selverian. “Since we’re hoping to be able to offset costs for several who simply can’t afford to be in a cotillion in these difficult times, it’s extremely important that the community help out.”

The Cotillion is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet people from throughout Philadelphia’s Armenian American community while forming social and even professional relationships that you’ll value for years to come. Don’t miss out! Registration extends through January!

Read the FACT SHEET for details and download the REGISTRATION FORM.

May 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

seminaire

From the AGBU Europe blog we learn that a recent AGBU-sponsored meeting took place in Venice with the objective of motivating new European Armenian leaders:

Goriz first seminar took place in Venice, Italy, a major Armenian Cultural place, from 1 to 3 May 2009. Participants and speakers stayed at Collegio Samuel Moorat Raphaël where the seminar also occurred in a beautiful room also very well equipped. 19 participants from Belgium (1), France (5), Germany (5), Spain (4), Bulgaria (3) and Italy (1) attended the seminar. All were young Armenian professionals living in Europe, selected according to the quality of their studies and professional background, capacity of leadership, motivation and involvement in the Armenian community of their country.

Among the topics discussed were the role of Armenians in Europe and how individuals can help lobby European institutions.

The gathering also allowed participants a chance to explore the centuries-old history of Armenians in Venice:

Goriz participants had the great chance to stay and attend the seminar in Collegio Armeno Moorat Raphaël and also to discover the beautiful San Lazzaro Island. On Friday 1 May afternoon, they visited San Lazzaro Monastery Museum with a Mekhitarist priest and then had a captivating tour of the Armenian Venice with Samuel Karapetyan from Collegio Armeno Moorat Raphaël (Armenian inscriptions on San Marco Basilica entrance columns, Armenian street and Armenian Holy Cross Church).
