“Légion Arménienne: The Armenian Legion and Its Heroism in the Middle East,” a traveling exhibit developed and prepared by the Armenian Library and Museum of America (ALMA), is now on display through Aug. 28 at the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Center in Chicago, letting visitors learn about the formation, training, military action, and post-war activities of this all-volunteer force from World War I.

Hampartsoum Event at the AGBU Baghdad Center

On May 13, a Hampartsoum celebration was held at the AGBU center in Baghdad with the help of the AGBU Baghdad’s Women Committee and YP Baghdad members. Hampartsoum is a traditional Armenian event which occurs 40 days after Easter and during a time when festivals and celebrations take place.

Photos from Discover Armenia 2010 (Part 1)

The following are some of the dozens of photos on the Discover Armenia blog, which is keeping us up-to-date on this year’s AGBU Discover Armenia educational youth trip that began on August 7 and continues until August 26.

Designed as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for diasporan Armenian youth to reconnect with their ancestral homeland, Discover Armenia participants visit various sites in and around Armenia and become acquainted with the numerous AGBU projects in Armenia.

Hye Geen Hosts Forum on the Challenges of Marriage for Diaspora Armenians

On May 1, 2010, AGBU Hye Geen organized a lively public forum about the challenges of marriage and family relations at AGBU Manoogian Center in Pasadena, California. The event featured three speakers with expertise in social psychology, as well as a short play about marriage, with over 100 people in attendance.

The first speaker was Houri Keshishian, member of Hye Geen, a specialist in family studies and author of “Armenian Adolescents in America and their Struggle for Identity.” She discussed significant changes in Armenian family life as traditional patterns of homemakers and breadwinners give way to Armenian women opting for education and a career with “increasing visibility.”
