Catholicos of All Armenians Attends AGBU Buenos Aires Centennial

On the evening of May 14, 2011, during a pontifical visit to Argentina, His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, attended the celebration of AGBU Buenos Aires’ centennial. In his remarks, he said, “The members of the Armenian General Benevolent Union have served our people with faith, love and devotion, according to the apostolic command that reads, ‘But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased’ (KJV). They have been guided by the purposes of sharing the concerns of the Armenian people scattered across the world, and keeping national life strong, as well as the prospects of the bright future of our people, in whose realization they have participated with their generous donations, noble efforts and all manner of assistance. Today we witness the celebration of the centennial of the Buenos Aires Chapter of the Armenian General Benevolent Union, which has made a considerable contribution to the processes of the formation and welfare of the Armenian community of Argentina, the organization of the spiritual mission of the Armenian diocese of Argentina.” His Holiness bestowed gifts upon members of the AGBU Buenos Aires Chapter for their meritorious activity: His Holiness decorated Mr. Roberto Malkhasian and Mrs. Rosita Yousoufian with the order of St. Sahag-St. Mesrob, as well as Mr. Haroutiun Sarafian with the order of St. Nersess Shnorhali.
