Interns Visit New York Armenian Nursing Home

On Sunday, July 10, NYSIP interns completed their first community service project of the summer as they put on a talent show at the New York Armenian Home in Flushing, Queens. The annual event, called “Sunshine for Seniors,” is a group effort where all of the interns get together to perform a wide variety of acts geared towards cheering up the residents of the old age home.

Some of this year’s acts included singing, dancing, a violin performance, Armenian stand-up comedy, and an Eastern vs. Western Armenian rap competition.

St. Vartan Cathedral Hosts New York Interns for Dinner

On Wednesday, July 27, NYSIP interns were invited to St. Vartan Cathedral in Manhattan for a special dinner with His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern).

The evening began with a tour of the cathedral followed by dinner and a question and answer session where the interns were given a chance to expand their knowledge on the church.

New York Interns Honor Supervisors

On Thursday, July 28, NYSIP held its flagship event of the summer with the 24th Annual Supervisors’ Reception at the AGBU Central Office in Manhattan. More than 70 people came together to show their appreciation of the supervisors for hosting interns this summer and for all of the support they have given year after year.

The evening began with a dinner reception followed by the tribute program which comprised of several speakers. Interns Alex Baghdjian of Doha, Qatar and Jasmine Schembri of Banstead, UK shared the experiences they’ve had this summer and thanked everyone responsible for their time in New York. First Vice President of Massey Knakal, Michael Amirkhanian, also spoke and touched on his collaboration with AGBU and the internship program. Other speakers included AGBU Central Board Member Carol Aslanian and NYSIP Committee Member Serge Kassardjian.

New York Interns Recieve Armenian Dance Lessons from AGBU’s Antranig Dance Ensemble

On Thursday, August 4, NYSIP interns were given their final cultural lesson of the summer with a special visit from the Antranig Dance Ensemble. As the top Armenian dance group in the United States, the Antranig Dance Ensemble provided expert instruction to the interns on the basics of Armenian dancing.

The interns later practiced their newly acquired skill by dancing to Armenian music.
